4 Stars Good for quiet type dogs.
For goodness sake don’t buy this crate if it’s your dog’s life goal to get free from captivity and don’t stick a dog that has never been crate trained in here and walk away. However, if you have a quiet dog that is not a chewer, or a digger and is happy to rest quietly in their crate until you let them out, this crate may well be perfect. I crate a large German Shepherd in mine and she hasn’t tried to escape or done any damage to the crate.
The crate sets up and takes down very quickly. The fabric and screen feel nice and heavy. I like the smaller screened wildows that allow the dog to take a private nap while still getting ventilation. I use a travelling bowl in mine, so I don’t have to worry about clipping anything to the fabric or spills. The crate has pockets on both sides which will hold a 24oz bottle of water with some room left over and it can be staked to the ground if it’s windy. If you put the crate in a fully shady spot with a little breeze, it’s no worse heat-wise than the outside temperature. We’ve been using it all summer.
On the downside, you can’t stack anything on top of it, like your purse or a grooming kit. The bottom is a little hard with a thin board under the “shearling” and no other padding, but easy enough to modify. And even though it folds up fairly flat, it’s still pretty large, make sure you have room to store and transport it.
1 Star Waste of money
I would not purchase a tent style crate again, especially this brand. Both of my crate trained dogs learned how to break out within a few days. We bought these to travel in our motorhome with since they are so easily collapsible and lightweight. We came back one morning to see that they had broken out and damaged the carpet in the brand new motorhome. They discovered that they could push on the front of the crate and split apart the zipper.
We have not been able to replace them yet with a wire crate, and in the meantime the male chewed a hole in the corner of the crate and pushed through the front, so it’s now destroyed. This is the same dog that we could leave in his crate at home with the door unlatched (inadvertantly) and come home to find him sound asleep, still in his crate.
I had read reviews before I purchased this and did have concerns about them breaking out, but I decided to take a chance since they are already crate trained. Don’t make the same mistake!
4 Stars Attractive and Light
This portable Pet Home is as advertised. It is extremely light and comes with a carrying bag making it ultra-portable. However, if you have a dog that will make an effort to escape, they will. Tip: Keep both ends of the zipper zipped at the top of one edge. Anywhere else, and they’ll be able to push through it with ease. Also, my pup tended to chew the sides of the tent a little, so make sure you leave plenty of (safe) chew toys for when they get anxious. And, one more – you can find these cheaper if you’re willing to look around and do a quick google search for a coupon.
4 Stars Very useful portable crate
I’ve had mine now for over 4 years and use it regularly at agility and obedience trials and seminars with my Standard Poodle. Because it folds flat and zips into a carrying bag, it packs easily since you can stack luggage, etc. on top. As with all soft-sided crates, you have to have a dog with good crate manners (best taught in a wire or hard plastic crate), since none of these soft-sided crates will stand up to chewing or serious pawing and scratching.
This crate is easy to set up — you just zip the front and back zippers to make the dome shape. It goes up and down much more quickly than many of the crates where you have to insert poles into the corner supports. The vent flaps roll up and secure with Velcro. The air vents are not especially large, so it is an excellent portable crate for indoors when it is air-conditioned or outdoors when the temperatures are moderate. I do not use mine outdoors in the summertime. There is no easy way to add a fan for cooling, nor does it have a strap to secure a water bucket. On colder, gusty days it provides great protection from the elements. The plus side to the smaller vents is that there is a lot of privacy so the dog can get a good nap.
