Nissan looks into quick charging system
Japanese automaker Nissan has clearly emphasised its belief that electric cars are the future ahead of alternative technologies such as hybrid and fuel cells, and now it will start studies with Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K on joint development of a quick charging system. The system would use Showa’s next-generation CIS solar panels as well as Nissan’s lithium-ion batteries with the development taking place as part of a commissioned project launched by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
Toyota improves storage capacity of lithium-ion batteries
Toyota Motor Corp., a company who isn’t a fan of lithium-ion technology, has dramatically increased the storage capacity of the batteries to create more practical electric-vehicles. Toyota says that the move is a step forward to creating a more powerful battery for EVs. According to Japan’s Nikkei newspaper, the technology will eventually allow lithium-ion batteries to store 10 times the energy when compared to current ones.
