2 Stars Soap nuts are great – BUT…???
There are three BIG things that REALLY trouble me about this brand. And I can safely say that I’ve used them ALL. At one time, there was not much as far as choices, but FAR better sellers have come on the market. Here’s my issues:

1 – Terribly inconsistent quality. I’ve gotten nice ones and others that I almost threw away. I had to pick human or animal hairs (I think both) and dirt out of one box. One time they were nice, clean and dry, another time they were totally gross and gummy. Obviously they are packaged overseas and quality control is horrible. Guess that’s the result of cheap labor and less than clean working conditions. I believe they are also subject to being stored or shipped improperly. That may be why I’ve gotten such sticky “clumps” of soap nuts at times. Being sealed in cellophane may cause condensation build up. I don’t know and I don’t really care. I simply won’t buy them anymore, have found a much better and reliable seller.

2 – Very UN-”GREEN”. The cellophane bags, VERY heavily glossy printed boxes (don’t think it is recycled), printed EVERYTHING! I thought soap nuts were a part of the green movement. Carbon footprint is something we look at. ALL my friends share this same sentiment. It’s like a slap in the face. We are trying SO hard to live greener lives, and these are packaged like this????? It’s like they don’t care at all.

3 – RUDE!!!! Terrible, terrible, terrible service!!!! I don’t even know if there is a Maggie in this company anymore. My intuition says “No”, because whoever the MAN was that I called who referred to himself as the “owner” when I last talked to them spent more time bashing his competition than helping me with my VERY SIMPLE question!!! I was checking out all the main sellers to arrange a larger purchase for my church group. We were just trying to buy them cheaper. In the end, I just hung up on him – and that is not like me AT ALL. He didn’t care one bit about what I wanted to know. All he wanted to talk about was why they were the best. I was astonished. Here is a QUOTE that I’ll never forget, “We are the largest importer in the entire western hemisphere.” LOL!!! Like I cared. My whole group only wanted a good simple price on 25 or 35 pounds. I’m really sorry, but the last time I talked to someone with a tone like this was a beer-bellied used car salesman trying to sell me on a piece of junk. Oh, I REALLY appreciated this “owner” telling me about his 1,000 pound minimum – while still bashing EVERYBODY – and AFTER – YES!!!! – AFTER – I had finally squeezed in all that I was looking for. It was unreal…

I’m giving this company TWO stars for two reasons only. They do sell soap nuts. That’s one. There probably is a very cool person named Maggie somewhere that actually DID care about us and our environment. That’s TWO – and that one is for her alone. Beyond that – ZIP!

Our family consists of myself, dear hubby, and our two boy still at home, ages 15 & 20 (both are active young men). I’ve been using soap nuts exclusively for my laundry for about 8 months and I love them! The clothes don’t smell anything but clean and I have also been able to stop using fabric softener. I was a long time Tide user and still have 1/2 container in my laundry room. I decided to try the soap nuts and bought a sample at my local health food store. I was hooked. I’m using an environmentally friendly, renewable resource and helping those in developing countries. But doing good for the environment and people would not keep me using something I didn’t like.

There has been once or twice when my whites were looking dingy and recently I decided to wash a load with my Tide. The whites were not any cleaner than with the soap nuts and the Tide scent made me a little nuts (it’s surprising how quickly you get used to the lack of soap & softener perfumes and then any of them smell too strong). I think the dingy problem is/was my water and so I now will sometimes wash whites with either bleach (if I absolutely must) or borax… either seems to do the trick.

How I use my soap nuts…

Usually I gauge how many loads I think I’ll do that day and try to plan accordingly… I use about 1 nut per load with a minimum of 2, a plan which seems to work well with our water (your mileage may vary). I put 2-5 nuts in the small bag double knot it closed and toss it in the washer with my dirty clothes. If clothes are really dirty, use more nuts or don’t fill the washer as full. I wash in warm water visit Maggie’s website for idea’s on cold water usage. Anyway, I run them thru the wash cycle move the clean, wet clothes into the dryer, leave the bagged used nuts in the washer and put in the next load to wash. When I’m done for the day, if I still have use left in my sack of soap nuts (i.e. planned for 4 loads but only got 2 done), I just leave the bag in the washer. If I feel the nuts are used up I dump them in an empty Tide soap measuring cup. When I’m at the end of the next round of multiple wash loads I add the used up nuts from my cup to the used up ones still in my sack and get another washload out of the combined 6-10 nuts. Then I finally throw them into my trash bag although they can easily become part of a compost pile.

That’s it. And if you’re wondering about the liquid version, I’ve tried it but like the actual nuts better.

So join the Green Revolution and buy some, even if it’s a sample bag to try them out. You may find yourself hooked like I am…

I’ve been using soap nuts for my cloth diapers for a while now, and I haven’t had any of the stink or buildup issues that I had with other detergents. I love that I can buy my soap nuts in bulk, and they’ll last a good long time!

I use them on my clothes and for washing cloth diapers. For once my baby’s cloth diapers don’t stink and don’t repel and his diaper rash is finally gone! They are just so awesome.

I have tried MANY natural products and although I use them because it sure beats toxic chemicals they tend to never work as well. Not the case with the soap nuts…these amazing little nuts work even better than harsh detergents. They leave the clothes smelling clean and fresh. You can also soak them in water and use the liquid for just about any other cleaning purpose.

5 Stars Great for Sensitive Skin!
This brand of detergent, both the Free and the Magnolia and Lilly are the only detergents we have found recently that doesn’t cause my wife to break out in hives. We made the mistake of trying 2x concentrated Tide and she broke out in horrible hives. Several weeks later and a lot of loads of laundry done in Ecos and we are finally getting things under control. Great product, cleans great and easy on the skin.

4 Stars Product good; shipping bad
I love the bulk purchase and the eco-friendly soap. But all three items I’ve ordered through Amazon have arrived damaged and leaky. I hope Amazon can rectify this.

5 Stars Great for babies
This is a great product for babies or people with sensitive skin. I have three children under the age of 4, with some other detergents they would have a skin reaction. I have found this to not only make our clothes clean but it also does not leave a residue which means things like towels actually come out fluffier than with regular detergents.

I’ve used it in both front and top loaders and it cleans well in both, if used in a top loader it takes twice as much per load.

I would not hesitate to recommend it for use.

5 Stars Safe for my baby
I was concerned with some of the negative things I’d heard about Dreft. So, I came to Amazon and did some research to find a recommended laundry detergent that had no fragrance and was safe for babies. “Ecos Free & Clear” is what I wound up buying, and I have been very happy with it. My son is three months old and we have only used this detergent for all of his clothes and blankets. It gets them clean and does not irritate his sensitive skin (which the detergent his grandmother uses does, so I know his skin would be reacting if the Ecos wasn’t as gentle as it advertises to be.) I am very happy with this product and will continue using it for his laundry. Also, a little goes a long way, a bottle lasted us two and a half months!

5 Stars great soap
This soap is excellent. The sending of it was a disaster, however. All the caps were loose, leaking soap all over the post office. Hence, I got gypped by losing about 16 oz. of product. Thanks a lot. Good deals are not always what they appear to be. Buyer beware.
